I'm back after a hiatus of several years

A few things have held me back from pursuing this hobby...back problems and eye strain being two of many reasons. But I'm back and ready to start creating more origami artwork, partially inspired by this video:

I like to think myself of having a lot of untapped potential, and seeing how a hobby I'm not half bad at is used by NASA, of all places, feels pretty cool.
I did study interior architecture for a year, and I'd be lying if I said that isn't what drove me to get into origami. Spending days on end working on a making a model out of cardboard, only to have it look like a scrapheap by the end of it, makes origami feel like a doddle.

The first project I shall be undertaking on arriving back to this hobby will be this one, made out of mini sticky labels:

I couldn't get it to link on as a video, but basically it's a very beautiful spiral type flower. It also seems to be really simple, all you need is those little sticky labels and a toothpick. I'll post the photos once I'm done with it

See you all soonly!

The firework

This is an interactive piece of origami. You basically turn it, and every time you do so, the pattern changes... Giving the illusion of a firework. Believe it or not, I used no glue or tape!

No real reason for this...but when is not a good time for random inspiration???

Origami for Christmas

Something that truly excites me about origami, is specifying it to an occasion or national holiday, Christmas especially. I can't wait to dig in and get some lovely pieces made for Christmas... to truly bring joy and happiness this holiday season!
wreaths, Christmas trees, Santa clauses... oh the possibilities are limitless!
Here is a list of projects I am excited to undertake:

Braided Corona star ( I also wanna try it in silver and purple

                                                    Christmas Tree Star
( I have completed several of these, probably the easiest                                                     decorations I have ever made)

                                                     3D origami Fir tree

                                                     Beautiful Christmas wreath

If you click the title, it will link you to an instructional video!! :)
I loved making this. The whole process from folding the paper, to choosing the beads, it was so much fun :) Here are my two wreaths. One is blue and dark blue, the other is green and designed green. I hope you like these.

Smaller and easier projects

Christmas Santa
(I gave up on this...I cannot get the beard right)

Paper snowflakes (non origami)
cannot wait to try these

I made two of these, from instructional videos, they seemed kind of awkward. To be honest, I thought they would be thrown on the scrap heap. However, my grandmother found a beautiful place to put them, and they look wonderful.

An ode to the simple paper Lilly

the paper lily in all it's forms and variations

These are the paper lilies I made...some put in to others, to make the colours contrast well.

The paper lilly is a very simple piece of origami to make, and with the aid of a round pen...you come up with a truly beautiful work of art.

The forgetten origami

This post is dedicated to all the pieces of origami I made, but forgot to write a garnished post on. Origami triangle hat...this post is for you. I'm just kidding, I've made some nice pieces of origami that are quite complex, that perhaps aren't as impressive as the 3D origami swan, but that I would be happy to showcase. Expect updates here :)

The navel shell (designed by Tomoka Fuse)

The minute I saw this video on youtube, I knew I had to try it. I mean, who ever heard of an origami shell before??? It sounded like a laugh and a half! So I tried it, once, twice, three times....I could not get it right...infact, each time I tried it, I made it worse... So I went back to my original design and watched the video very carefully again, folding each crease with precision, and eventually I came up with something that resembles a shell. It is not as perfect as the prototype, by any means. Point is I tried, and it is certainly unusual, and very beautiful. Enjoy!
